‘Higher’ is the first single to be taken from David Douglas' upcoming full-length album 'Moon Observations', which will be released on Applescal’s Atomnation label later this year.
David Douglas presents his new electronic track entitled 'Higher', a lucid cut of analogue grooves, catchy chords, dub slaps and moog-tone bass-lines. David sings to haunting effect, perfectly layering his vocal samples over the dense bass-beat textures of the single. Having already harvested a slew of online praise by the likes of Sonic Router, Pitchfork, XLR8R and many more, David's new single 'Higher' could also be described as a more mature extension of his previously released ‘Royal Horticultural Society’ EP, and an insight into what to expect from his upcoming album.
'Higher' has been remixed by two fellow Dutch artists, Weval and Mattheis and by UK bass producer Throwing Snow. Weval previously released their brilliant ‘Half Age’ EP on Atomnation, while Mattheis, a new face to Atomnation, has already released some impressive material. This includes his - "Isms EP" that was hailed by DJs such as John Talabot, James Holden and Steffen Bennemann. Throwing Snow is mostly known for his releases on Domino, Ninja Tune and SnowFall and delivered a very dark remix. Atomnation is thrilled to be collaborating with all of the artists involved with David’s "Higher" EP.
When asked about David's upcoming album, he says: "Everyone is a moon, and everyone has a dark side that they never show to anybody. Since the dawn of mankind, we've been fascinated by the moon. The moon is cold and silent, shrouded in mystery. It's pulling our dark sides. Lightning our blackest nights. Marking the times. We share the moon like we share madness, mystery and music. My new album 'Moon Observations' is a musical search to the far side of the moon.
