The European duo, comprising the talents of French electronic icon Jean-Benoit Dunckel (previously of Air) and Icelandic composer Bardi Johannsson (Bang Gang), meld ambient sonic textures with evocative visuals that invite listeners on a unique audio-visual adventure.
‘Bad Weather’ is celestial music at its core, combining layers of spacey sounds, hand claps and hushed harmonies with wistful melodies that call to mind Air’s characteristic style. Shadowy and poetic, their sound has a raw, magnetic quality to it, reflecting both the unpredictable nature of Iceland and clean, classic design of France.
In an age of instant gratification, Starwalker are keeping their approach refreshingly mysterious, unveiling their inspiring creations slowly and tantalisingly. The pair revealed the darkly evocative accompanying video to ‘Bad Weather’ in September 2013, scoring stellar reviews from the likes of Spin and Stereogum.
Dunckel and Johannsson say of their music:
“Starwalker depends on the people’s wish. We are just answering our own and other people’s imaginations.”
Each with highly-acclaimed projects such as Dunckel’s co-composition of The Virgin Suicides under their belts, they bring their own distinctive styles and haunting song-writing skills to the fore, promising more ethereal melodies with each beautifully crafted piece.
